Oooops. Duh. Sorry.
Home stereo. Maybe later these would assume a place in home theatre... first I would need to have a home theatre, in order to necessitate the need for any home theatre speakers! HA HA HA.
I also hope to tri-amp the woofer, horn, and bullets, at some later date. I have crossovers for the 075's too.
Thanks!

Would this cabinet perform better than my A7 MDF cabs with 515-16C's in them?
Any help would be great! Thanks.

Hi.
I just bought a couple 311-90 horns. What would be the preferred horn set-up using 288-16G drivers, A7 MDF Cabs w/515-16C's.....
311-90's, or 1005B's?
I have a set of JBL 075 Bullets as well.
If I used the 311-90's, should I still use my N500F crossovers? What would be the best frequency to cross the 311-90's in this situation?

OK. Scotty,
No not the cabinets. Your link led me to the "lansing" library where I tried in vain to locate this in the Altec area. I did find it in the JBL area though. The cabinet is DEFINATELY a pre 1978 model JBL 4560. After further scrutinizing the pictures (I bought these from some photos and will be picking them up on SUNDAY) I'm certain the 15" woofers are JBL. What model I do not know, but I'm guessing same era 2135's or 2220's... I don't know. For sure the Horns are 311-90 Altec's, w/288 drivers (Look like 288-C's, but I can't see the back plate).
OK. So now original question only change is should I use the JBL 4560 cabs (w/515-16C Altec's), or my A5 MDF cabs? What about the hornitos? 390-11's vs 1005B's? With the 075 bullets figured in for good measure.
I'll fill in the voids after I pick this stuff up. Damned pleased with myself so far as the price..... yuk yuk, cheeeap! And everything works, hasn't been touched in many years... plus lots of extra stuff ta boot! Yea for Mike!

Just to get terms straight- these are in no way FOLDED horns. this is commonly called a front losding horn, it is a STRAIGHT horn.
In a folded horn, the air path has bends in id, hence "folded". A W bin isa folded horn, there are other types.
the 4560 is LOUD. As far as out performing an A-7, maybe from 200 hz up. I think the 4560 was built on a coral island called No Baas Atoll.
Our standard stack in the late "70's was a bunch of 4560 on top of RCA (Shearer) folded horns.
If you do use the 4560 i would recommend subwoofs highly.

as explained above.

Hi Convergence,
May I know the reason for that preference? I have 1005B now and have always been tempted to change to 311-90 or mantaray? Will I lose something? I have the perception that 311 or mantaray have better highs extension.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">We had the 511 sectoral horns for a movie theatre.
They had a hard time with some of the new movie sound tracks such as clipping and distortion.
An Audio engineer in the communications dept. experimented by ordering a set of A-5 for a small
auditorium of 60 seats. Every one was sold on the sound.
I know that the 311-90 is for a 1.4 " throat but
the configuration is similar to 511 so the 1005-B
wins on all counts. Dynamics ,projection, definition , It really sounded more like a true
reproduction. So the theatre was fitted with A-5.
Distortion disappeared. The Film department was satisfied. We had a Canne film judge as teacher.
He had access to all releases of film genre from around the world in brand new prints. That was a lot of pressure on projectionists.
These tests were done a long time ago and would still stand today.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's a place I would never go- since you didn't test the 311, you can't make that statement.
The large format driver makes a lot of difference in the sound.
I like the multicells- particularly the 1003. But I would NEVER make a statement like you made.
311 is a wonderful horn.
So is the 329.
